The keys to the tool’s versatility lie in its three sets of interchangeable tips and the fact that the two durable aluminum body sections are machined to work with easy-to-find 3/8″ wooden dowels or metal rods of any length, allowing users to customize the gauge’s extension to fit the project.
Setup is quick and easy. The dowels or rods install in the gauge body sections by tightening a couple of set screws, and the length is adjusted by sliding the gauge body sections together or apart. Large knurled locking knobs make it easy to lock in the setting. Tips mount on the end of the dowels or rods by tightening set screws.
The angled tips are designed to fit easily into the corners of case assemblies to check for squareness. They’re also narrow enough to fit in the grooves for a drawer bottom, allowing users to precisely size a panel without risking the inaccuracy and errors that sometimes can occur with measuring.
The flat tips allow for dimensions to be transferred directly from one part of a project to another, eliminating problems related to imprecision or mistakes in measuring. They also have broad faces to help keep them from tipping over while in use.
The trammel tips turn the 3-in-1 Bar Gauge into a compass of almost unlimited capacity. Because users determine the length of the rods or dowels, they can draw arcs and circles of practically any size. The marking tip accepts standard pencils.

Local Motion delivers real-time insight into fleet utilization and vehicle diagnostics, including battery charge status, which makes it easier to introduce electric vehicles into fleets. The order stipulates that any agency operating a fleet of 20 motor vehicles or more must reduce its consumption of petroleum products by a minimum of 2 percent annually through the end of fiscal year 2020.

The heart of Local Motion’s technology is a wallet-sized hardware component that plugs into the vehicle’s data port and is mounted on the dashboard. Using M2M technology, the device ‘communicates’ the vehicle’s status and reminders to drivers and fleet managers. Employees can either reserve a vehicle in advance through the web platform or mobile app, or simply walk up to any authorized vehicle that is available, as indicated by a color-coded light system (green= available, blue= reserved, red= blocked). The vehicle can be unlocked using their employee RFID badge or smart phone.

Streaming media players were added to 6 million U.S. homes over the past year, increasing ownership penetration to 17 percent of U.S. Internet households in the second quarter (Q2) of 2014, according to the Connected Intelligence Connected Home Report from The NPD Group. Streaming media player ownership is expected to increase to 39 percent of U.S. Internet households by the beginning of 2017.
The current, and future, penetration increases are being driven by three main factors; more brands in the market, more apps, and lower device prices.
“In its infancy, the streaming media player market had two major players driving growth; Apple and Roku – now we have four relevant hardware manufacturers with the addition of Amazon’s Fire TV and Google’s Chromecast,” said John Buffone, executive director, NPD Connected Intelligence. “Content is what’s going to bring these devices to the next level. It’s not just necessary to be able to stream popular video services such as Netflix and Hulu. Device manufacturers must also have the ability to attract a wide array of content owners and developers to build apps for their platforms – which is the direction Apple, Roku, Google, and Amazon are taking with their devices.”

Even with all of the upgrades to these devices, prices are coming down, making them more attractive to consumers. The average price of a streaming media player dropped from $ 88 in 2012 to $ 61 in the first half of 2014, according to NPD’s Retail Tracking Service.
“The decline in price was initiated by Google with its $ 35 Chromecast, and it wasn’t long before others, like Roku, responded competitively with solutions such as its HDMI streaming stick for $ 49,” said Buffone. “Affordability can drive impulse buying, rapid increases in ownership, and in turn it is increasing the number of homes with access to apps on TV. It’s quickly becoming a great new channel content owners can use to grow the audience for popular TV shows, movies and more.”
